Martech Falklands Ltd was established as a resource for inshore diver support for construction and shipping assistance in Falkland Islands locations where there is a developed and expanding fishing industry, and of course the aftermath of the Falklands war opened various additional opportunities for diver and coastal underwater survey activities.  Paul Ellis was the formation Director and is with his family, a Falklands resident.

 

Hydro Products Ltd was formed from the origins of a major USA Defence Contractor which developed the first commercial ROV (called RCV225). This underwater vehicle system was the first production vehicle used extensively in the emerging O&G industry of the 1970/80’s in the North Sea and later in world locations into the late 1990’s.     Don Mackay took over the UK subsidiary in 1997 as Hydro Products Ltd which has an operational office in Aberdeen UK.

 

 

The Present.

 

Hydro Martech (Falklands) Ltd was formed in July 2012 and seeing where there was obvious synergy, merging many of the capabilities of the two organisations made organisational sense.  The Company has traded successfully since then, initially performing Hydrographic and other survey and data acquisition services to various Falklands customers and others undertaking operations in and around the Falkland Islands.   There is a new emphasis on providing appropriate expertise related to the emerging O&G industry and also to the Scientific and Environmental sector in the South Atlantic areas extending to Antarctica .



Hydro Martech offers a range of marine and engineering services, increasing in variety by virtue of additional personnel expertise being incorporated within the Company structure.

 

 

And our future.

 

Hydro Martech (Falklands) Ltd  (HML) is now an established operational Company with track record in Falkland Islands survey operations with various high level clients in Government, Construction, Defence and O&G sectors.
 
The future is planned to be a progressive and  forward looking services provider with movement into increased hydrographic coastal operations and applying the collectively developed expertise from past histories in the Falklands and North Sea O&G offshore marine environments.
 
Technology progression of the industry worldwide will encourage HML to introduce new ideas and technologies to this remote part of the world as we have  access to emerging technologies and applications from our UK base  - examples such as AUV robotic systems and various acoustic sonar packages will find effectiveness in these locations for scientific research and seabed topography in the S Atlantic in addition to the O&G business.
 
Stanley township and area will undoubtedly emerge into being a prominent contributor to the Oil & Gas energy business in time, due to the current development in Sea Lion complex operated by Premier Oil.  Further similar offshore developments (in much deeper waters) will provide additional challenges for the Falklands and their abilities to absorb these advances – Hydro Martech Ltd is well placed to be part of this exciting Falklands Islands adventure
